A Voss and Pike Casefile: The Early Days
Section 30: What Darek Saw
"I heard the side door at seven minutes to midnight," said Darek. "The pass reader on the Customs House side door has a beep. I know every beep on this site. Somebody coming in late from the reception, I thought. I looked at the clock because you do, on nights." He turned his tea round. "Nobody asked if I'd heard anything. They asked if I had quarrelled."
Jonah wrote it down. "Which system logs the beep?" he said.
"The council's," said Darek. "Everything here is the council's."
