Four films on one DVD that, taken together, provide an evaluative overview of experimental research methods in psychology:
1. Experimental Design provides practical illustrations of the strengths and limitations of repeated measures, independent measures and matched pairs experimental designs using three classic experimental studies in psychology: the Stroop Effect, Loftus' eyewitness testimony experiments and Bandura's bobo doll research (06.39).
2. Laboratory Experiments uses some famous psychological studies to explain the experimental method and illustrate how laboratory experiments are carried-out, with an assessment of their strengths and limitations (06.26).
3. Field Experiments uses classic studies to illustrate what field experiments offer psychologists compared to other experimental methods. The film also looks at the difficulties involved in setting up field experiments and examines their strengths and limitations (05.05).
4. Natural Experiments illustrates how this method works, how it differs from other experimental methods and assesses its strengths and limitations (05.55).
